Take the Spring Plunge

Cups, cutlery, straws, coffee cups, chop sticks, all at Plunge, all for reuse

Whether we use disposable wet wipes, squirt chemicals onto our hands 20 times a day, spray and wipe down surfaces all day long, or add a cup and tray to the crisis that is single use takeaway containers. There seems to be an endless ripple effect on our planet during this pandemic and we would like to help you reduce the impact in a responsible manner this spring.

We have come up with a take away solution for your coffee, your juice, your noodle dish, your salad, banana bread and more and you will love it. It took us a while but we have figured out how to reduce your waste and keep yourself safe with your own utensils.

As a café, we faced the reality that we would lose customers daily and the ones we kept would opt for takeaway instead of sit down – it was the only option for a while and we noticed the huge rise in takeaway containers that were tossed in the bin. Our waste jumped so much we added a pick up for our rubbish and it weighed heavily on us, thinking about the waste we were adding every, single, day. We are small business owners and Rainbow Warriors for the planet so we investigated a few ways as to how we could reduce this waste back down again. Here are a few ways you can clean up more than your house this spring:

  • Every day I buy a freshly squeezed juice, I hate take away cups if I am on the run, so I decided to find a cup that I can reuse and thought you might like one. We picked some nice colours, had them personalised and now it is here  – they come with a stainless steel straw and the first juice is free when you buy one from Plunge - gold, black, turquoise and blue.

  • Packing for a picnic with a group but don’t want plastic cutlery? You also don’t want to lug around cutlery from home right? We had some gorgeous bamboo cutlery made and it comes in a durable canvas case to be kept in your glove box or your handbag. There’s a knife, fork, spoon, chopsticks, straw and straw cleaner and I find it works great with our Nasi Goreng or a banana bread…depending on my craving.

  • This is also a great option if you want your own cutlery at work instead of using the office set, you know it’s clean and it fits nicely in your bag.

  • The biggest hurdle for everyone is the keep cup – oh how the keep cup has changed our lives and we had it taken away from us swiftly due to covid safety concerns. BUT we have been working with two legends on the south coast of NSW who have their own war on waste happening. Damien and Martin from Green Caffeen have created a take away cup that is FREE, you order your coffee, take it with you, drink your coffee, next time you come back – RETURN YOUR DIRTY CUP and we give you a fresh and clean one when you walk out the door. The dirty cup goes straight into our dishwasher and you get a new one every time. No need to wash it up, you can use it at the best cafes on the Barrington Coast as we are all on board with this initiative. Eleanore Rattrae from Barrington Coast publishing has worked hard with us to get this happening and we would like to thank her for being a gun at making it happen with us.

So if you are a part of the Plunge Spring clean up here is what you need:

  • Green Caffeen take away cup from Plunge (or other cafes, just download the #greencaffeen app and search for your closest, they are all over Australia)

  • Picnic cutlery set from Plunge, comes in a green or cream canvas case

  • Stainless steel drink bottle and straw from plunge, 4 colours to choose from and a free juice when you purchase.

  • Stainless steel straw and straw cleaner set
